Jun 07, 2018 ...

Jessan Ray Torres, Sirib Community Leadership Scholar, recalls the hardship of his parents in minimizing expenses in order to support him and his younger sibling.

Sa gabi, pumupunta si Tatay sa barangay hall, para mag-duty," he shared, saying his father is a barangay kagawad and thus renders service to the whole barangay.

The family hails from Brgy.

Jessan heard of the scholarship through word of mouth in their barangay, which led him to apply for the scholarship at the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO).

"I'm really blessed to have qualified for the scholarship, and consistently for three years," he expressed, "Kahit maraming ups and downs, patuloy pa rin ang suporta ng scholarship na 'to."

He also reminds, "Hindi ito puro stipend, kundi serbisyo rin sa ibang tao," appreciative of skills and traits he has learned through volunteer experiences and community service.

In his gratefulness, he sent a heartfelt message to the Facebook page of Governor Imee R. Marcos.

Last May 25, Jessan received his Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation as one of the 710 graduates of the Northwestern University.
