Ilocos Norte joins nationwide Independence Day celebrationJun 13, 2018
The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) celebrated the 120th Philippine Independence Day together with the rest of the country through a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Provincial Capitol yesterday, June 12, 2018.
Vice Governor Angelo M. Barba led the celebration, which was joined by other local government units, the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO), the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Veterans Federation of the Philippines - Ilocos Norte chapter, and employees and workers of PGIN.
"Ang kalayaang ito ay pinagbuwisan ng buhay ng mga tunay na bayani na nakihimok, nakipaglaban, at namuhunan ng pawis, dugo, at buhay upang ang watawat ng ating bansa ay maiwagayway sa ating buong kapuluan," said Barba.
Second Lieutenant Jovito Ramos, President of Armed Forces of the Philippines Retirees Association- Ilocos Norte Chapter, shared, "Masayang-masaya kami ngayon dahil nadatnan namin ang selebrasyon ng ika-120 na Araw ng Kalayaan. Ado ti naited a panagwaya, namal baliw ti panagbiag (Maraming paglaya at pagbabagong naibigay)," reminiscing his experiences during World War II and recalling how he and his comrades fought against the Japanese forces.
SP Marcos reiterates importance of independence for younger generation
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Mariano "Nonong" Marcos stressed the importance of youth awareness in Independence Day, saying, "Kailangan nating ituro sa ating mga anak, sa ating mga kabataan kung gaano kahalaga ang kalayaan. Parati sana natin itong ipaglaban."
"Kailangan displinahin natin ang ating sarili at para maging mapayapa naman ang ating lipunan at kapaligiran," Marcos added.
