Imee Marcos at Panagbenga 2018: "We are one family, one Solid North" "Ilocos-Cordilleran tourism a synergy we should exploit"

Feb 26, 2018 ...

Joining Baguio City's celebration of the 23rd Panagbenga Festival, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee R. Marcos lauded the solidarity of the provinces of Northern Luzon, including La Union, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, and the rest of the Cordilleras.

She expressed her joy at seeing again the projects of her father, Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, which include the Marcos Highway and the Baguio Convention Center as well as programs for electrification and irrigation.

She also shared, "In Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the partition and creation of the Ilocano provinces." Both former components of the Spanish "Provincia de Ilocos" celebrated their bicentennial foundation anniversary last February 2.

"As much as they chop up and made our culture and our being, the Cordillera remains one and Solid North today is solid still.

"Sangsangkamaysatayo nga pamilia idi, ita, ken agnanayon. Sangsangkamaysatayo nga Solid North. Agbiagtayo amin," she said. (Iisa tayo na pamilya noon, ngayon, at magpakailanman. Iisa tayo na Solid North. Mabuhay tayong lahat.)

With the province of Ilocos Norte booming in terms of tourism, Governor Marcos nevertheless admitted, "Ang turismo sa Ilocos Norte, bagong-bago pa lang, samantalang leader talaga sa turismo ang Baguio."

She proposed synergy within the sector, "We should combine the classical tour of the north – of Baguio, rice terraces, and the colonial lowlands of Ilocos Norte," saying that Ilocos Norte's sand dunes would be an ideal backup to the Cordilleran mountains.

Governor Marcos also thanked the Cordilleran community for their support for her brother, Former Senator Ferdinand "Bong Bong" R. Marcos (BBM), in his vice presidential bid and ongoing election protest.

"Inot-inot (paunti-unti), 'wag mainip," she quipped, later adding that if BBM's protest continues at a snail's pace, "baka may mapilitan na ibang kapatid, katulad ko, na mag-national."
