In partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN), the second Najorda-Manotoc-Dizon Basketball Clinic and Tournament in the province will take place on April 21-22, 2018, at the Centennial Arena in Laoag City.

Registration is ongoing at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Annex Office, Provincial Capitol, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

According to Mr. Faivo Bartolome, head of the Ilocos Norte Sports Development Office (INSDO), PGIN will be providing the venue, medics and first-aid service, and some equipment for the basketball workshop.

It will cater to athletes between nine and 12 years old (Kids Division) and 13 to 17 years of age (Junior Division), inclusive of four two-hour sessions, a dri-fit shirt, snacks, and refreshments.

"This is a grassroots program for basketball, so the age group targets young athletes for them to be established on the basic fundamentals of basketball, and then going on to advanced plays," said Bartolome.

The first batch will be on April 21-22, while the second batch will likely be held on April 28-29.

"They will be divided by batch, depending on the number of enrollees," explained Bartolome. "The first part of the workshop will be a fundamental clinic, then the second part will include a mini tournament among the enrollees."

At least a hundred young athletes are expected to participate.

Bartolome also shared that the Ilocos Norte contingent to the 2018 Palarong Pambansa, together with other provinces representing the Ilocos Region, are performing well.

"Our Sepak Takraw elementary team has gotten four wins, so they're going for placement already, and I think our Baseball secondary team is already at the quarter finals.

"May nag-finalist na rin sa Athletics natin, and I think our Football team is also doing good," he reported, adding that the region's Gymnastics representative performed well even with the high standard of the competition.

"Their performance this year is above par compared to their previous performances, so that is good for them," he said. "They are improving. Tumataas ang level of performance nila."

Bartolome says that a medal for Sepak Takraw can be expected, while he is hopeful that the Football and Baseball teams will also earn medals.
